Chikmagalur has the distinction of being the birthplace of coffee in India. As legend has it, the first seeds were sown about 350 years ago on the slopes of these hills by the seer Baba Budan, who is believed to have smuggled seven seeds of coffee from Mecca while on a pilgrimage. There is something delightful about sipping some excellent coffee as your eyes drink in the beauty of the green hills, the scenic valleys and the snow-white coffee blossoms.
